The “Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions” is a large-scale international forum organized by Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau. Since its inception in 2017, the forum has been held successfully for six consecutive years, becoming a well-recognized platform for sharing goals, actions, and progress of international metropolises on cleaning the air and addressing climate change, under continued support by international agencies such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), environmental departments of foreign governments, sister cities and NGOs. Since 2020, it has also, upon invitation, been listed as a professional forum of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), and registered as a parallel event of the United Nations “International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies”.
This year’s forum will be held during CIFTIS on September 5-6, 2023. With the theme of “Innovation-Driven Carbon Emissions and Pollution Reduction”, the forum will invite representatives from international organizations and global metropolises, experts from relevant research institutions, as well as delegates from typical Chinese cities, to host sharing of experience, dialogue and discussion on actions and progress, challenge and solution of international metropolises on cleaning the air and addressing climate change. To explore solutions for reducing carbon emission, cutting pollution, expanding green, flourishing growth, for sustainable development under the vision of carbon neutrality vision. This forum will continue to serve as a platform of dialogue and exchange, as well as a catalyst for joint efforts in metropolitan clean air and climate actions.
The 2-day forum will consist of a plenary session and three technical session. For the plenary session, focusing on “Innovation-Driven Carbon Emissions and Pollution Reduction”, representatives and experts from the environmental and climate area of international organizations and global metropolises will be invited to discuss and share stories on how innovation has driven and helped air quality improvement and addressing climate change, in terms of both management mechanisms and technology.
The three technical sessions will focus on the following topics: (1) Focal Area for Coordinated Control of PM2.5 and Ozone-VOCs Monitoring, Assessment and Control; (2) Focal Area for Coordinated Governance-Mobile Source Pollution Control and Electrification; and (3) Climate Adaptation Strategy-Research and Actions (please refer to their respective page for more information).
