Tetsutaro SUGIMATA joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2003. Since then, he has been mainly engaged in the environmental field. As deputy director of the Planning Section, has spearheaded projects to improve air quality in Tokyo, centering on issues such as automobile pollution, fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and the effects of photochemical oxidants. He worked in the
Environmental Improvement Division, Bureau of Environment from 2018. And he developed environmental impact assessments in the Urbanization & Climate Change Division (Currently Climate Change & Energy Division and part of the General Affairs Division), Bureau of Environment from 2014-2015.
