The “Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions” is a large-scale international forum hosted by Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau. Since its inception in 2017, the forum has been successfully held seven times and has received continuous support and participation from intergovernmental organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme, foreign government environmental protection departments, sister cities, and non-governmental organizations. It has established a platform for the exchange of clean air and climate action initiatives among international metropolises. Since 2020, it has also, upon invitation, been listed as a professional forum of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), and registered as a parallel event of the United Nations “International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies”.

This year’s forum will be held during CIFTIS on September 14-15, 2024. With the theme of “Technological Innovation Leading Clean Air and Climate Actions”. The forum aims to build a platform, establish channels, pool resources, and enhance synergies, seeking to facilitate the exchange and sharing of the challenges, responses, actions, and achievements in combating air pollution and addressing climate change faced by international metropolises. The forum will showcase Beijing’s achievements in ecological conservation, help learn from the advanced concepts and practices of other metropolises, support efforts in air pollution control and climate change mitigation, and promote the high-quality development of the capital. It will also bring together global wisdom to seek a path toward green development in collaboration with countries worldwide.

The forum will last for two days, including one plenary session and two technical session. The plenary session, themed “Innovation Leading Carbon Reduction and Pollution Control,” will invite officials and experts from international organizations and major metropolises in the fields of environmental protection and climate change. The forum will focus on discussing cutting-edge researches, advanced technologies, implementation pathways, and action demonstrations in air pollution control and climate change response, while actively highlighting Beijing’s achievements in carbon reduction and pollution control over the past decade of the new era.

The two technical sessions will focus on the following topics:“Innovation-Driven Air Quality Improvement” and “Typical Cases of Metropolitan Climate Actions” (see the technical session pages for details).
